Viktorsha Uliyanova is a multidisciplinary artist and educator working with alternative photographic processes, installation, video, and fiber art. Her work explores themes of loss, intergenerational trauma, and cultural identity narrated through the prism of memory. Uliyanova’s practice is informed by her upbringing in the Soviet Union, political repression, and the immigrant experience. In her research, Uliyanova explores neglected and overlooked histories, often using archives as a catalyst for her work. She received her BA in English from Hunter College and an MFA in Photography at State University of New York at New Paltz. 

Her work has been exhibited at a number of national and international venues including Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art, Lorimoto Gallery (New York City), 8Ball ZinesxMOMA PS1, Das Gift (Berlin), Participant (New York City), Collarworks (Troy), among others. She was the recipient of Max’s Kansas City Project Grant, Traverso Photography Award, Women’s Studio Workship SAI Award, Sojourner Truth Fellowship, and Research for Creative Projects grant. Uliyanova has taught many workshops over the years and is currently an Instructor of Photography at SUNY New Paltz.
